throwback thursday–celiac

It was 3 years ago that Einstein was diagnosed with Celiac.
It’s be an interesting partial gluten-free journey for our family, but it’s all worth it to not have a kidlet feeling sick all the time.
And now that he is healthy and growing very rarely do I see him struggle with food choices.

Thursday Child – Guitar Hero Hero

We have had Guitar Hero almost 2 years now. For awhile it was Big J’s favorite Wii game. He played it all the time.

He got where he could play behind his back.

And upside down.

Then, like most toys, he got bored with it and it didn’t get played very often…

Until some 12 year old boy somewhere set some kind of world record on the new Guitar Hero. And magically the guitars came out again.

He is even kind enough to play with me, even if I am really, really bad. He plays the songs on expert and I play on easy and he still beats me.

He is our Guitar Hero Hero.

But I think someone is out to take away his title as the Guitar Hero Hero.

Thursday's Child - Roo

She finally went back to school today.
I don't think she is still 100%.
But considering she hasn't been to school since April 28th it was bound to wear her out.

Thursday's Child - Friday Edition

Yes I know it's Monday, but I just haven't had the chance to do this post before now. Don't you hate when life gets in the way of blogging?!? At least I am at the point where I don't let blogging get in the way of life....Anywoo.

This week Thursday's child is brought to you by Big J and Einstein.

Last Wednesday I got a call from the ELP teacher from the school letting me know the boys would be getting an award on Friday at the end of the quarter award assembly. I knew they were both getting a couple of awards, but I also knew that it was possibly Ham's last therapy session and I didn't want to miss that. So with a few phone calls and rearranging some scheduling I knew I was going to be able to be there. Then I found out that Big Daddy was going to be able to be there also. Woohoo. We weren't going to tell the boyz we were going to be there, but Big Daddy has a real hard time with surprises.

Here is Einstein getting his award for Principal's list: (Don't you love how he posed for me so I could get the picture?)

Big J getting his award for Principal's list:

Principal list is the highest honor roll. The kids that are on it have to get higher than 95% on any grade. In 3rd grade there were a bunch of kids on the Principal's list, but by 5th grade the numbers had dwindled to just a few kids on it.

Then the ELP teacher got up to give his award for the ELP student of the month.

He started by saying that this quarter there were Co-ELP students; one from 3rd grade and one from 5th grade. At this point the boys still have no idea that they have won. Then he starts describing the 3rd grade winner and Einstein thinks at this point he knows who it is...and it isn't him. Then Mr. D starts describing the 5th grade winner and I sat and watched Big J's and he still had no idea he is talking about him.

Then Mr. D said that the most amazing part is that both winners are from the same family. I couldn't see Einstein from where I was sitting, but Big J's face was the best. He was totally surprised.

I know this picture is blurry, but I couldn't resist posting it.

I am totally in awe that I have been trusted with these amazing children.

Thursday Child - Rapunzel Edition

I enjoy reading...a lot. Most nights before I go to sleep I spend time reading. Sometimes I stay up much too late reading. An author that I enjoy is Shannon Hale. She writes usually writes young adult fiction with strong female characters...that usually end up being princesses.

Roo has inherited that same love of reading. I love to see her curled up with a book, or reading picture books to LaLa and Ham. I thought that she still had a few years until I could introduce her to Shannon Hale's books.

Until I found this at the library:

It is written in comic book style and it has a strong female character that isn't quite a princess.

It was a pretty long book with some pretty big words and it took her a couple of days to finish it.

And she loved it!

Thursday's Child -- Field Trip Edition

Today I had the chance to spend the day with Einstein...
and the rest of his ELP class.
We headed to Mesa to visit here:
ELP is the Enhanced Learning Program for our school district and Einstein's class is made up of only 6 kids. So he gets to spend 1 day a week in a class with a very dedicated teacher and 6 kids. How lucky is that?!? It is an environment that he thrives in and they have the opportunity to learn things that they would never get to learn in a regular classroom.
This is a great museum to take kids to, and with such a small group we had a docent from the museum give us the tour.
This Gentleman taught the kids about the Hohokam Indians and how they made tools. He was fascinating to listen to. You can tell he knows what he is talking about and likes what he does.
There is a spot set up where you can pan for gold.
The kids loved that.
I really enjoy going on the field trips. I love spending time with the kidlets away from home and all the distractions there. I like being in their environment and getting a little peek into their lives away from me.
I feel very blessed to be a Mom to such amazing children. I love the time I get to spend with them.
I really love being a Mom every day...not just Thursday!
