hair’s to today

I have these pictures on my phone of ways I’ve done LaLa’s hair. I thought I would post some occasionally.
I’m still having a hard time finding a place to take pictures in the morning and get enough light to see the details.

1. This is one we do quite often. It’s just a simple french braid on each side and then I combine them in the back of her head into one big braid. It’s fairly simple and quick. The bow is from All Things Ribbon.

2. This is another look she really likes. It looks more complicated than it actually is, but it’s kind of complicated to explain. Basically it’s a zigzag part and braids added into more braids and added into more braids. She says that people always ask about it. The bows are from All Things Ribbon.

3. This is the one that really started it all. It’s one of the first hairdo’s I did on Roo a long time ago. It’s a simple ponytail with “snakes” or twists or whatever you call them. Sometimes we do more small twists, but this day we just did 5 twists with her ponytail. The bows are from Gymboree from about 8 years ago.
Here’s a close-up of her twists. Her hair is perfect for looks like this.

I keep taking pictures of her hair and post a few at a time. If it’s a hair-do that I found on another blog I will post a link to their tutorial.

I linked to All Things Ribbons just because I love her bows.

we’ve got spirit…times two

It was the last school week before spring break so of course that means Spirit Week for the Babies and Roo. Our jr. high is boring and doesn’t ever do spirit week. Boo. And the Man-Child didn’t mention anything so I am assuming the high school didn’t have it either (or maybe he is afraid to tell me?!?).

Monday was Sports Day for LaLa and Ham…and since we aren’t really sporty people I was glad we had a few things handed-down to us that we could use.

For LaLa’s hair I did a zigzag part and braided braids into more braids. Kinda sporty, right?

For Roo it was Twin Day and she and a couple of friends planned their matching outfits.

Tuesday was supposed to be Backwards Day, but there was some miscommunication at the school and the kidlets thought it was Silly Sock Day.

LaLa totally embraced wearing silly socks.

And matched the rest of the clothes to her socks.

Since it was sock day I thought I would do a Sock Bun for her hair. I’m not sure if it’s my lack of skills or her crazy over-abundance of hair, but the sock bun was just huge and wasn’t so great looking. Good thing I’m pretty good at rope twist buns.

And Hammie’s crazy sock?

That was just a little out of his comfort zone and he stuck with regular socks. Which is kind of ironic since most of the time he wears mismatched socks anyways.

It was Disney Day for Roo.

Since there was a miscommunication on Tuesday they combined Backwards Day and Crazy Sock day on Wednesday…and Hammie choose to do both!

I think it helped to see other kids dressed up the day before.

The funny thing…I didn’t think about how they were dressed and ran a few errands with them after school…still wearing crazy socks and backwards clothes.

Roo’s school went PC and instead of calling it Nerd Day they called Goofy or MisMatched Day.

She didn’t mind how her clothes looked, but wasn’t a real fan of the hair and bows I wanted to use.

So she this is how she really felt, but was still a good sport.

Thursday was Western Day for the Babies and bandanas and cowboy hats did the trick.

I didn’t take a picture of LaLa’s hair because it was just two plain braids.

Roo’s school had Occupation Day. I told her I would have worn yoga or pajama pants and told everyone she was a stay-at-home Mom. Ha! She didn’t think that was funny, so she went as a Business Woman.

When she got home she said everyone thought she was Amelia Earhart.

And Friday, as usual, was Spirit Day for both schools. Easy peasy…

Since Friday was the last day of the quarter that meant a morning of Award Assemblies for me.

Hammie’s was first where he got Student of the Month.

And a Music Award.

I think he may have been more excited about the music award…

LaLa’s assembly was next and she earned Principal’s Honor Roll.

She was pretty upset on Monday when she didn’t get called for Principal’s Honor Roll, but was very happy when they did the party with the principal she found out that she had actually earned it.

After that I headed over to Roo’s school for her assembly and somehow got seated at the wrong table…with a bunch of students. Wow…just wow!

Roo got Perfect Attendance this quarter.

I’m always a bit surprised when my kids get that and feel like I’ve kind of failed as a Mom if they actually went to school every day!

She also earned Honor Roll this quarter.

Roo is in the gifted program at her school that consists of a 5th grade class and a 6th grade class that works together. In the 6th grade class there are 28 kids…and there are only 8 girls (and 2 of them are actually 5th graders).

Needless to say they are very good friends.

I didn’t want to completely leave the Boyz out of this post since they both had band concerts this last week.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…Percussionist should get to be at the front of the band in at least one concert each year!

And now everyone is home from school and it’s officially Spring Break!

Two weeks of no alarms and just hanging out together…

spirit week times two

Last week was Spirit Week for our elementary school and middle school.

Roo is getting old enough were she wants to have fun with Spirit Week…as long as she doesn’t look too silly.

LaLa is 100% in with dressing up.

Ham struggles with wanting to dress up, but it goes against every fiber of his being to stand-out.

~~~~~
Monday for LaLa and Ham was our all time favorite day: Nerd Day.
Ham wore argyle and plaid…that completely matched. We were able to get him to wear socks that clashed.
LaLa didn’t need any help or coaxing to find her clothes.
We went pretty simple with LaLa’s hair and finally a crooked part was a good thing.
For Roo it was Twin Day and she didn’t dress up.
~~~~~

On Tuesday it was Ugly Shirt and Tie Day for the babies.

Hammie grabbed one of his favorite shirts and I found a tie that completely clashed. He was pretty uncomfortable and about 2 seconds before we headed out the door he had a breakdown and ended up leaving the tie at home.

LaLa found a scarf in my closet and I tied it in a BIG 80’s bow tie.

For her hair we did a simple pony with a bow that matched the scarf.

It was Disney Day at the middle school and Roo wore a Tinkerbell shirt…and I didn’t get a picture.

~~~~~
Wednesday was Pajama Day for LaLa and Ham.
This might be a VERY close 2nd to Nerd Day as our favorite.
For LaLa’s hair we did a zigzag part with high ponies.
And it’s very unusual for Ham’s hair to take to longest to get ready, but it took literally hours to get his “Bed-head” look.
On Wednesday it was 80’s Day for Roo.
WooHoo I LOOOOOVE the 80’s!
I grabbed the crimper and had fun! Roo wasn’t quite as excited as me. She didn’t want her bangs very big…What? And I kept adding hair spray to get the back really poofy and she didn’t want that…WHAT?
We finally compromised and she looked totally gnarly…Dude.
~~~~~

On Thursday both schools had Western Day. (How convenient that our local rodeo was starting this weekend)

What else do you do for Western day than plaid shirts and bandanas.

For LaLa’s hair we did simple french braids and combined them at the bottom. That’s why there is that odd little bump in her braid, I wasn’t planning on putting them together.

Judging by the curls popping all over Hammie’s head it is time for a haircut.

Roo took a more modern take on western…but still had the bandana thing going on.

She looks so grown up in this picture.

~~~~~
Friday was Spirit Day for both schools.
Since all the kidlets have gone to the same elementary school we have quite the collection of shirts for the kidlets to choose from.
Roo added her own style to her “Wildcat” shirt. I wish you could see her pants better…they are leopard print.
~~~~~

I ended my week at an award assembly for LaLa.

She got Student of the Month.

And even more exciting for her…she FINALLY was given a PE award.

~~~~~
Now we are starting our two week Spring Break.
Woo Hoo!
