From Lelly - i think october is a great month to spend some time with yourself. i know many of us are already hyperventilating about the rush from All Hallow's Eve through New Year's Eve. this is the perfect opportunity to get yourself mentally, physically and spiritually prepared for the upcoming holiday *madness.*
this month, we will consult our 100 lists. it's quite simple, really. on the 7th of the month (TOMORROW) post an spt about item #7 on your list. on the 14th of the month, post an spt about item #14. and so on. and so on.
Number 7 on my list:
I haven't had a job in over 9 years.
I guess it would have been better to say I haven't been employed outside the home in over 9 years.
When I was done with high school I left for college and it didn't take me too long to figure out that spending 4 more years in school wasn't the thing for me. I knew what I wanted to do and I knew, at that time, a 4-year degree wasn't going to be any help. So I dropped out of college and got my certificate to be a travel agent. My career started less than stellar. In fact I was fired from my second job because I didn't know what I was doing. When I started my third job I had a boss that realized my strengths and help me get a different job that was more in line with my skills and I became a corporate travel agent. I finally ended up working at Carlson-Wagonlit Travel as a senior corporate travel consultant. I was handling travel for NBC and other GE top executives. I loved what I was doing and was pretty good at it. After Big J was born I worked part time for awhile and cried every time I had to leave him to go to work. Then after I got pregnant with Einstein I knew that there was a much more important job for me to be doing and I became a stay-at-home Mom and have been blessed to be able to be home with my kids since then.
the SAHM gig isn't so bad, is it! what a cool job, tho, being an agent of travel for all those high falutin' big wigs! i often wonder what i would do if i had to look for employment outside the home again. i haven't been part of the workforce in over 7 years! any skills i once had are obsolete, outdated, or SUPER rusty.
ReplyDeleteyou have a great job!
ReplyDeletedoing a job that plays to your strengths makes all the difference in the world. you were lucky to have had a supervisor who was able to coach you with that.
I felt the same way after adopting Josh & going to work. I cried every day too...
ReplyDeleteI love your picture with the kids. That is so cute!!!
That is so awesome! I love your insight! :o)
ReplyDeleteYou were a pretty darn good travel agent...BUT you TOTALLY ROCK AS A MOM!
ReplyDeletePS...can't believe you mentioned me crying on my blog...you silly girl, that did make me laugh! I had forgot all about that!
Being a SAHM is the most important job around and it looks as though you handle it beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI quit working when my son was under 2 years old and didn't go back until much later on and then it was only part-time. I mainly went to work because my husband worked out of town and I needed to socialize with other grown ups badly.
That's great that you have been able to realize your dreams both in the work force and now at home with your kids.
ReplyDeleteRunning a family home isnt just a job, it is a career. I envy you. Oh how I wish I didn't have to work. I fought staying home when I had the opportunity... One of my few regrets in life. Post pardom got the best of me. Embrace it baby!
ReplyDeleteA SAHM is the hardest job there is! That's so great that you can do that. I know I don't always love it, but it's the right thing for me to be doing as well.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME! So far, this is the BEST decision I've made to stay home with my kids...I love it too!
ReplyDeleteEvery few years I decide that I am going to look for a job. I actually find one, but then can never follow through, because I cannot bear to leave my little ones home without me. Staying at home is really the best job around. We are blessed we are able to do it.
ReplyDeleteWay to go!! I was a sahm for a long time too. My baby is in 2nd grade now and I started to work at school
ReplyDeleteA great promotion if you ask me!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the day that I don't have to work out of the house and be a mom! I just want to be a mom!
ReplyDeleteA travel agent sounds like it would have its perks, but they probably don't compare to the more important perks of being a SAHM. If only you could get free trips too...:)
ReplyDeleteEinstein! I love it! You are a role model my dear for staying home and doing what is most important - I guess there is always time to go back to work when you sweet kids are older - I love your SPT photo - very sweet and a whole lot of happy kids!
ReplyDeleteIt's always great to find your calling. Congrats.
