Star Student

There are many reasons I love where we live. We have the best of both worlds, small town living with and the big city conveniences.

It’s great that our town is still small enough that the Mayor and the City Council still take time to recognize Star Students that are nominated from our local schools. There are 4 students recognized from each school each semester.

Roo was nominated as the Star Student from her school for February and the awards were handed out on Wednesday.

This is what her teacher had to say about her, “Roo comes to school each day prepared and ready to learn. She always does top-notch work and can often be found helping others around her. Every day Roo has a smile on her face and brings a positive attitude to class”.

Here she is receiving her certificate from the Mayor. (dang blurry pictures…gah)

She was a little nervous standing up there in front of all those people.

Way to go Roo!

While we were a Town Hall it was the perfect opportunity to take LaLa to meet the mayor. Ever since watching “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” she has been asking if we have a mayor and wanting to know what he looks like.

The mayor was nice enough to let the LaLa come up and sit in his chair.

And even trusted her with his gavel. (He obviously doesn’t know LaLa very well!)

It was a fun night for all of us.

And it was a nice surprise to have Big Daddy there too…he was supposed to be working late.

  1. That is awesome...I use this word too much btw. But it is! And what wonderful things her teacher said about her.

PS. I totally forgot that Roo got her hair cut so short. My middle daughter did this exact same thing. It made her look older.

  3. What a great kid you have there! Those pictures are classic, but your Roo looks a lot happier to be there than most of those other kids.

Sounds like she has a very cool teacher too.

  5. Hello! Somehow I found your blog a few weeks ago, I really enjoy it! Anyway, I am so proud of Rachel and I was so, so sad I couldn't go to the ceremony on Wednesday night. Unfortunately I had a class that night and I had to give a presentation. I am so glad she brought in her award and pictures, it felt like we were there with her! You have a very special daughter and I will really miss her next year!

I love our small town feel, too. And our mayor.
