Tonight is our last night of Spring Break, our blissfully boring 2 weeks of Spring Break. We didn’t go anywhere or do anything really exciting, but I am still not ready to give my kidlets back to their teachers yet…and I am not sure they are ready to go back. I think we have all enjoyed not having schedules or routines. Here is a not-so-quick recap of the last two weeks.
The trampoline was put to good use daily.
Most nights the kidlets were still out playing when this showed up.
We have had repeated request for a new pet in our house….apparently Harley doesn’t count as a pet?!?
And since there was a birthday coming up I took the kidlets and visited a couple of pet shops to see if I was ready to add a new member to our family.
I am not.
Even if we thought he was really cute.
We did end up adding Sea Monkeys to the chaos. I don’t think they will cause too much extra work.
We made lots of trips to the library. I don’t think we ever ended up all going together. One day I would grab a couple of kids and go and the next time it would be a different couple of kids. Ham doesn’t quite grasp the concept of quiet at the library, so to avoid aggravating others and to save myself some embarrassment we limit his visits to the library…for now. It is so nice having kids big enough to babysit for short periods of time.
There were quiet times when everyone sat down and read. It is amazing how quiet a house can be with 5 kids all sitting down and reading. For the first couple of days we tried all sitting down together to read for 1 hour. That didn’t work out very well and we quickly went back to everyone reading on their own. The boyz had to read for 1 hour before they were able to play on the wii or the computer and Roo had to read for half-an-hour. But when the other kids were reading LaLa and Ham would end up looking at books right along with them. Blissful silence.
There were many mornings of sleeping in late for some.
And the usual early morning wake-up time for others.
We spent time refining our wiffle ball skills at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.
Or not.
Some of us just played.
A few of these were consumed.
Grandma Barbara treated us to a trip to the Phoenix Zoo.
Even at the zoo Ham still was without pants…he did start the day with them, but after a really wet diaper ended up like this:
LaLa was so tired after the zoo she took a 3 hour nap…of course then she was up until 11:30 that night. Really the girl has serious sleep issues.
We celebrated a birthday
with a special night of awards.
There was some backyard camping with sooo much help putting up Big J’s new tent.
Some of it great.
And some…well not so much.
I went out and made sure they were tucked in all comfy-cozy and headed back inside to enjoy my nice, big, king bed all to myself…not even a mid-night visit from LaLa!
We had more extended family time
celebrating another birthday.
But tonight it is quiet.
Backpacks are ready. Clothes picked out and waiting. Kidlets are all sleeping.
And me? I am just counting down the 10 1/2 weeks until summer break!
I love the picture of your daughter, and the moon! I think I will have to give this a try with my kiddos! I too am not ready for the kids to go back to school this morning. I'm going to miss them! My house does need some major attention, after all of the playing for the past week. Have a great Monday! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteI felt like I was able to share in all the happiness.
I can hardly wait for your summer break!
Fun times. I myslef have mixed feelings about spring break ending. I have today to wrap up my feelings. We don't go back until tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, you guys get 2 weeks off for break!? How fun! We only get 1 week off here...and ASU only gets one week too!
ReplyDeleteIt looked like you and the kiddos accomplished alot on the break...and had a great time doing it!
I love the picture of Rue with the moon in her hands!
I love your year round school schedule. I say that each time your breaks come. Spring is such a wonderful time to have a long break...when it is not 100 degrees outside and all anyone wants to do is sit in the AC.
ReplyDeleteI love all the fun especially those quiet reading moments :o)
You do such a wonderful job with your blog. I really appreciate your efforts and your talents. "Goodness girl...you cute". THANK YOU.
ReplyDeleteI love that we get a whole two weeks for spring break. It's just enough laziness to rejuvenate and make us ready for a schedule again isn't it?
