Menu Monday

Last week our menu was all wacky. We ate what was planned, but not on the day it was planned for. That's the beauty of grocery shopping for a week at a time...flexibility without falling back on takeout.

I have found the best time for me to plan our weekly menu is on Sunday as dinner is finishing up and everyone is still at the table. I can get suggestions from everyone and I can work with what is already in the pantry and what the calendar looks like for the next week and go from there

So here is what I have planned this week

  • Monday - green eggs and ham...well bacon (it's Dr Suess' birthday today)
  • Tuesday - tacos
  • Wednesday - chicken stir-fry
  • Thursday - pizza
  • Friday - hot dogs (celebrating the beginning of spring break! woohoo)
  • Saturday - who knows
  • Sunday - sweet and sour meatballs (the recipe is here, which I have started doubling it)

This week I have a special recipe in honor of Dr Suess. Have you heard of the book "Bartholomew and the Oobleck"?

To make oobleck you mix 2 cups of corn starch with 1 cup of water. If you want to make it green like in the book add a couple of drops of food coloring to the water before mixing in the corn starch.

If you have never played with or made oobleck it is fascinating. It is described as a Non-Newtonian fluid. You know Newton's 3rd law of motion--for every action, there is a equal and opposite reaction. Well not with oobleck. It acts like liquid, but if you apply pressure it will appear to be solid for a short time.

Check out this video. It is in spanish, so if there are any bad words--Sorry!

  3. That's great Tammy! I will just send my kids to your house to play in your bathtub, because they want to do the same thing!

  4. I've seen this stuff on tv somewhere before. Looks like tons of fun to play with, but oh so messy I'm sure.
