Gentlemen Start Your...Block of Wood

Yesterday was the Pinewood Derby for the boyz...not my favorite Scout activity. I think it should be called the Dadwood Derby.

But this year was different. You could tell that the boys had been involved with building the cars and the parents were more relaxed.

They had an official weigh-in area.

Each boy was given a driver's license.

Then we moved to the track area.

Ham decided that he would rather sleep than watch the races. I have no idea how he stayed asleep with all of the yelling.

It took a few tries to get the computer and the track to work together....since when is the pinewood derby so high-tech?!?

Then they were off. Big J's car is in lane 1.

He came in 2nd on this race.

IMG_8422

There were A LOT of races.

Here is Einstein's car in lane 2.

IMG_8434

He figured out half way through the races that his car was faster backwards...too bad he didn't have them put it on the track backwards the whole time.

IMG_8442

This race he came in 1st...I just didn't get the picture taken fast enough!

IMG_8436

We had about 30 cars racing, and each car raced at least 4 times.

IMG_8410

We were there about 2 1/2 hours.

IMG_8433

Roo was fine with that because there were Cub Scouts all around and seriously she is a horrible flirt.

Here are all the cars lined up for the awards.

At the very end of the awards ceremony a member of our ward who works for the police department showed up...

with a speeding ticket for the overall winner.

This is one of my favorite cars. They ran the block of wood as it was, with some weights. It came in 1st for his den.

IMG_8452

Big J had the 3rd fastest car overall.

Einstein had fun competing in his first Pinewood Derby.

I am just glad it is over until next year...and next year we only have to build one car.

  3. I remember those days, I'm glad they are over, too. Reminded me of that movie....Down and Derby. I love that movie. My mom did a car once shaped like a piece of swiss cheese and had a small decoractive pin of a mouse as the driver! Love, the ipod and lego cars! Made me smile.....
